if i ever did anything useful, it’s making a guy realize that women are just people with their own personality, like men. This happened a bit more than a year ago
we were at a house party, and both super drunk. he is extremely nerdy and shy. We lay on a mattress (could barely stand upright) and somehow he starts talking about probability, and how technically everything can be calculated. Like if you flip a coin, by measuring the force that you apply to it and air resistance and everything, you should be able to calculate if it’s gonna be head or tails.
I get it because i’ve thought about that before, but then we start talking about how that raises questions about the existence of free will, and that if god existed it would be omniscient not because the future is already decided, but because it can predict all possible outcomes of every action.
then we went back and talked about probability again, and that it’s not true that we can calculate everything (see heisenberg’s uncertainty principle), which means we do probably have free will. And we came to an agreement, that if god exists in the way we think about it, it probably knows a particle’s position as well as its momentum at a certain point in time :)
we went on to talk about these kinds of topics for several hours and fell asleep just before sunrise. After we helped clean up the house and were leaving he said to me that he hadn’t realized that women were just regular people, and that he understood it thanks to that conversation with me??
I am glad he figured it out, always happy to help. We’re friends now.
